U.S. Gun Deaths in the South
U.S. Gun Ranking in the South

Gun laws in the Southern United States are almost uniformly too permissive, with Stand Your Ground and Concealed Permit laws almost universal. The rate of gun death in those states mirrors those laws, with gun deaths for the region the highest in the nation. Louisiana’s firearm anarchy leads the way, and along with it the rate of gun death, higher than any other state.

While Texas may appear to be a better state in which to live, it is only relative to Louisiana that it holds true. The gun death rate in Texas is still three times higher than that in a Northeastern state like Massachusetts. The gun laws in Texas still lead to higher death rates than in most states in the nation. Its gun deaths still place the state at 25th worst for gun deaths.
